A pair of charities have received a boost from a group of local fund-raisers.

The Inner Wheel Club of Workington have raised £450 for the Great North Air Ambulance and £900 for Muscular Dystrophy UK with a number of activities, including a patio party, pie and pea supper, and a coffee morning.

Ruth Stamper, outgoing president of the club, said: "I chose Muscular Dystrophy UK because I know two families affected and I know how important it is that the research is done to find cures and treatments.

"The district charity this year was the North West Air Ambulance but our chairman said it was acceptable to fund-raise for our local Great North Air Ambulance, which is vital."
