A new cafe and restaurant is coming to a Workington shopping centre.

Donald Dixon, who owns Dunmail Park in Workington and Dixons Department Store in Whitehaven, is due to officially open The Terrace Cafe and Restaurant at the Workington shopping centre next month.

Four chefs have already been hired for the 120-seat restaurant, which will offer fresh food and hot and cold drinks.

It will also provide a Sunday lunch carvery.

As well as large meals, the cafe will also serve lighter options.

Mr Dixon said: “We’ve had a demand for it.

“We used to do a Sunday lunch carvery before we had Asda and it was very popular.

“A lot of people like to have a meal before they go to the cinema in the evening.

“Although they might get a light bite at Costa or Subway, some like to make it a night out.

“Lots of customers have been asking for it and we’re expecting it to be very welcome.”

The restaurant will have an entrance through the top floor of the main Dixons store and one near the Dorothy Perkins shop.

Although there is still a little bit of work to be done, Mr Dixon is hoping The Terrace will be operational and ready to serve ahead of its official opening on February 12.

Catering manager Shaun Neaves, who will run the cafe, said: “Everything will be homemade and we’ll be doing breakfast, lunch and big meals.

“There will be homemade cakes and scones.

“There’s nothing in the vicinity like this.

“I’m excited and can’t wait to get going because it’s been a long time in the making.”
