Former Olympic medallists are at the forefront of a charity Swimathon which will take place in West Cumbria.

Swimathon takes place at 600 venues across the UK including Workington Leisure Centre and Copeland Pool and Fitness Centre in Whitehaven.

Swimathon 2019 takes place from Friday, March 29 to Sunday, March 31.

The event takes place at participating pools for the full weekend, however, if the date and location does not suit, MySwimathon allows people to take on their challenge when it is best for them.

The majority of swimmers will take part in Swimathon sessions which will be held by their local pool throughout the weekend.

Fundraisers are sponsored to take on a 400m, 1.5k, 2.5k or 5k by swimming the equivalent number of lengths.

Proceeds are raised on JustGiving pages in aid of Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK.

Swimathon raised £2.1 million in 2018.

Olympian and record-holder Mark Foster said: "I'm very proud to be supporting Swimathon 2019 and I hope everyone looking to set themselves a challenge signs up. Whether you're just learning or are an experienced swimmer already, there's a challenge for you."
