Spring has sprung in Maryport as retailers decorate for Easter.

The Maryporters Easter Window competition, supported by Allerdale council, was judged by Allerdale council chief executive Ian Frost on Monday with Muddy 4 Paws taking first prize.

The Wood Street shop beat near neighbour Bows Baby Boutique who came second with The Bakehouse in Senhouse taking third place.

Gemma Best of Muddy 4 Paws received an Easter chocolate hamper and flowers for her display.

Mr Frost said: "Well done to Muddy 4 Paws for a great effort this year. It’s fantastic to see so many businesses making an effort to promote Maryport by making the shop windows look so attractive.

"There’s something about Easter and Spring colours that really cheers everybody up after the dark winter nights. I would encourage everybody to come and look at the displays and spend some time (and money) in Maryport and the other fantastic towns of Allerdale."

Maryporters chairman Debbie Wright said: "The shops that took part had lovely displays that brighten the town. We would urge all retailers to take the time to decorate their shops to reflect the different seasons and events. It makes the town seem really welcoming."
