CREATIVE youngsters paraded an impressive selection of Easter bonnets in Cockermouth.

Cute bunnies, fluffy chicks, spring flowers, dinosaurs, Batman and Angry Bird - you name it, they were on those hats.

Not to mention ribbons, hay, cotton wool balls and lollipop sticks.

Youngsters at Mary Platt Pre-School were asked to create a festive hat during the holidays. They all rose to the challenge with great gusto - and a little help from their parents.

The children then got together with parents, grandparents and staff for a grand parade in the sunshine.

Manager Sarah Westgarth said: "We have some absolutely fantastic hats. This is the first time we have done an Easter parade and everyone has had a good time.

"The children have enjoyed being creative with their parents and sharing their work with their friends and staff. They have all enjoyed seeing each other's hats.

"The great weather has been a real bonus."

Photographer Jim Davis was given the unenviable task of choosing his favourite three. First place went to James Falcon, four, whose hat featured a farmyard complete with sheep fold, animals and eggs.

Joanna Litt, three, got second prize with her pretty pink hat adorned with rabbits, bunnies and dangling carrots.

Third prize went to Neave Gorman, two. All of the children were given a certificate and a little chocolate egg.

Mum Sarah Hirst was at the parade with her daughter, Charli Dobinson, four, whose hat included chicks in a nest and was adorned with flowers and ribbons.

"She picked everything she wanted and I helped her glue it," said Sarah.

"It's been great fun. The children have loved doing it and it's nice to all get together as a community. The parents only usually see each other briefly as they drop off their kids."
