PEOPLE in Cumbria are being invited to the inaugural meeting of a new drive to promote the use of bicyles as a mode of transport for short journeys.
Proposed by Richard Ingham, of Cumwhinton, the role will follow in the footsteps of places such as Istanbul and Milan, who have incorporated the role into their cities.
Mr Ingham is encouraging people to come along to the inaugural meeting of the Bicycle Mayor for Cumbria drive, which will take place at 7pm today at the Cumbria Voluntary Service office in Carlisle.
During the meeting a committee will be elected. Mr Ingham is among those to have put his name forward for the position.
Anyone wishing to support his proposal, or to put themselves forward, is asked to contact Richard on richardc.ingham@hotmail.co.uk
