Plans to build around 150 new homes in Aspatria have been revealed.

Persimmon Homes has submitted early proposals to Allerdale council to develop a 12.3-acre site off Harriston Road.

The site has been earmarked for housing development in the council’s draft Local Plan, which estimates that it would be suitable for 100 properties.

The development would be south of Brayton Park, which is mainly bungalows, and east of Fell View Close, surrounded on its other sides by fields.

A letter from the developer says that some of the new homes would be 2.5 storeys high, but houses that big would not be built next to bungalows.

The site would be accessed via Harriston Road, with potential for an emergency access link via Fell View Close.

Allerdale council has concluded that Persimmon would not need to submit an environmental statement as part of the planning process.

It is not known when a formal planning application may be submitted.

A spokesman for Persimmon Homes Lancashire said: “The site is a proposed allocation in the emerging Allerdale Local Plan and as part of this the council are assessing its suitability and the principle of residential development on the site.

“Persimmon Homes are also investigating the potential allocation including undertaking preliminary technical investigations at this very early stage.”
