A GROUP of young people who have worked to improve youth mental health in their community received a prestigious award.

Eleven youngsters from We Will, a group formed out of the Ewanrigg Local Trust, received The Diana Award for their work when they visited the House of Lords earlier this month.

A spokesman for the trust said: “The Diana Award is the most prestigious accolade that a young person aged 9-25 years of age can receive for their social action or humanitarian work. Young people from We Will met inspirational young people from all over the world who are change makers.”

The group’s achievements were featured in People magazine to mark Princess Diana’s birthday. Demi-Leigh Ayre, 17, of Workington, said that the group really appreciate the opportunity to spread their message more widely. “Have the courage to talk; have the courage to listen. No-one is alone.”

The winners of the award were Maryport residents Chloe Wilson, 17, Reece Pocklington, 17, Rebecca Woods, 17, Hanah Panting, 18; Cockermouth residents Billy Robinson, 18, Lucy Steel, 15, Jasmine Dean, 18, Molly Robinson, 16, Josh Dean,15, Tom Roberts, 18, and Demi-Leigh Ayre, 17, of Workington.
