Maryport children are set for a tropical adventure tomorrow.

The town council, in association with Maryport Junior Schools' Partnership is holding a family fun day, starting at 1pm.

The joint schools' council chose the theme and vouchers were distributed to pupils at the end of the term.

However, people who wished to attend can still buy £1 vouchers on the day.

Tropical events will include a hula hoop challenge, Hawaiian leis, bongo drums, was stocks with a pineapple thme, limbo and tropical dancing.

Pass the parcel becomes tropical with a game called pass the banana. Attempts will be made to catch the "tropical" duck.

On a more multi-national theme, there will be a giant Jenga game, penalty shoot outs, bouncy castle and slides, fairground rides, glitter tattoos and sand art as well as lots of goodies including ice cream, candy floss and slush puppies.

The first 100 children to present their vouchers will also receive a free hot dog.

Much of what is on offer is free with the vouchers distributed last week. People can also buy more on the day, subject to availability.

"The idea is to give the children of the Maryport area a fun, inexpensive summer event," town clerk Paul Bramley said.

The fun day will be held on the grassy area behind the Shiver Me Timbers playground and will run from 1pm to 4pm.
