Maryport's new day hospital will be officially opened next week.

Workington MP Sue Hayman will officially open the hospital on Friday, September 20, and the public are invited to have a look around the newly renovated facilities.

There is even the chance for members of the public to have a health check.

Zoe Larmour, thei ntegrated care manager for Maryport and Cockermouth, said everyone was excited about the celebration event.

"We have completely renovated the old ward and we now have state of the art facilities to offer a much wider range of services. Our staff can deliver care to the people of Maryport here instead of them having to travel to West Cumberland Hospital for procedures such as blood transfusions and intravenous antibiotics to name just a couple.

“We also have a new rehabilitation facility with the new gym meaning we can offer more rehabilitation than we were able to before.

“On the day, as well as looking around our new facilities, the hospital staff will be offering a range of health checks including: checking your blood pressure, measuring your weight and checking for diabetes. If anyone needs further advice staff will be able to support that as well.”

Professor John Howarth, deputy chief executive at Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said: “In north Cumbria we are leading the way with integrated care and the facility that we now have at Maryport is helping ensure that more people are cared for closer to their own home.

"We want to develop what we have here to include more services but also build our relationship with the voluntary sector and other providers so that together we are able to give people the best possible service and support that we can.”

The official opening is at 12noon at Maryport Hospital.
