HEAVY rain overnight in Cumbria is causing disruption to rail services today.

Train company Northern has reported that flooding is affecting the line between Maryport and Carlisle with several sites reported.

Trains are operating between Barrow and Maryport with rail replacement buses running between Maryport and Carlisle.

North tickets will be accepted by Virgin Trains and TransPennine Express on journeys between Carlisle and Lancaster until further notice.

The line is blocked between Hexham and Carlisle following a reported landslip at Wetherall, with rail replacements operating between Carlisle and Haltwhistle. Services between Newcastle and Carlisle may be cancelled or delayed.

There are reports of flooding at Thackley, between Leeds and Carlisle. Trains are now running at normal speed, but there are residual delays.
