Cockermouth town councillors agreed their budget for the next financial year which represents an increase of 6.25 per cent.

The budget of £210,990 was supported by councillors.

"The main reason for the rise is because we are introducing new services," said clerk Sheila Brown.

The new town bus service which the council is supporting is expected to cost £4,000, CCTV will cost £6,010.

The council has also set aside £1,000 to cover green issues following it declaring a climate emergency last year.

While CCTV is expected to cost £6,010 to purchase, install and maintain for a year, it should only cost £1,000 in following years.
