Brexit has been well and truly celebrated by one very patriotic barber, who is glad to see the country “taking control”.

Parties to welcome, celebrate and commiserate Brexit were taking place across the country over the weekend, as Britain officially cut ties with the EU three years after voting to go it alone.

And Isaac the Barberman, on Peter Street, Workington, was excited to greet the long-awaited event with plenty of fun and laughter – and kept the party going all night long.

27-year-old Isaac Moore wanted to mark “Brexit Day” on January 31 as he felt it deserved recognition as a special day, and so treated his customers to a bright smile, tasty treats and endless Union Jack waving.

With British music playing all day, including The Who and even Vera Lynn, those who visited Isaac Moore’s barbershop were handed homemade cupcakes – “baked by my mam” – and a couple of beers while they enjoyed a haircut.

“Everyone just had a laugh really,” the pleased business owner said.

“I just think we should all be behind it, and be proud of the fact we’ve taken control of our future.”

And the momentous day was a family affair, with Isaac’s sister, Abbie Brown continuing the patriotic party upstairs at her business, Abbiexx Beauty Studio, and their mother baking the celebratory cakes for her children and the wider family.

“Everyone who’s come in has had a cake and some Prosecco,” she said.

“We obviously voted to leave, so we’re all excited, and my mam made us some cakes specially for Brexit Day, so we thought it would just be nice to bring them in and let our clients have them.

“She put little flags on them and everything – everyone’s loved them! All our clients have come in and had a cake and a laugh, so it’s been great.”

She added: “We started the party last night! We opened a bottle then, and have just been celebrating over the past couple of days, really.”

Britain officially leaved the EU on Friday night at 11pm, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson posting a video message to hail the “dawn of a new era”.
