A POPULAR village festival has been postponed.

Dean, near Cockermouth, holds an arts and scarecrow festival every two years.

This year's event, which raises money for the school, church and community centre, was due to take place in May.

One of the organisers, Carol Thomas, said: "I am so sorry to report that the Dean Arts and Scarecrow festival due to be held this next bank holiday has been postponed.

"We are hoping that we can hold it next year during the early May bank holiday when it will be even better giving us all something to celebrate."

There were more than 70 entries in 2018. People from the village and neighbouring communities all pitch in, spending months creating the scarecrows to display in their gardens, on the roadside and in various places around the village.

Teas are sold in Kirkstile Community Centre and Ullock Village Hall.
