Every week, the Times & Star will be inviting you to nominate a person who you feel is doing a fabulous job of keeping people’s spirits high during this uncertain and challenging time.

Whether it’s a helpful neighbour, a caring councillor or a shopkeeper who made you smile, we want to hear all about who you think deserves a bunch of flowers and endless recognition.

For our first Person of the Week it's a three-in-one, with the team dedicated the lives of others has been put forward – Angela Good, Trish Heron and Stephen Rumney of Moorclose Community Centre.

The dream team have been working tirelessly to see that everyone in and around Workington is fed and looked after while in isolation from coronavirus.

Manager Angela and her wonderful team members Trish and Stephen oversee food donations, which involves sorting, cleaning, bagging and delivering over 40 food packages to those in need each day.

The "three amigos" also work with street wardens in the area to keep an eye on their community, helping out and offering support where they can – a 24/7 job that they all do without a blink of an eye.

Commenting on their work, Angela said: "It's what we have always done in the past – we're always here for the community.

"There are a lot of people who need help at the moment, and we're just doing our bit."

And while the caring manager was pleased to be named a Person of the Week, she remained humble and grateful to the town.

"I think we're all just thinking 'oh my goodness' to be nominated!" Angela said.

"But this isn't what we do it for – we do it because people need help, and that's what it's all about.

"Thank you to everybody who has donated, and who is still donating and helping us – without them we couldn't do what we do."

She added: "Please everyone, stay in and stay safe.

"The best way to look after each other and our families at the moment is to just stay inside and take care."

Help us to spread some joy across Allerdale by sending in your nominations, with details of why they deserve a big bouquet and a round of applause, to emma.walker@newsquest.co.uk.
