Ambulance staff at a centre in Lillyhall turned out to cheer on a six-year-old boy who was doing a 5K run to raise money for the NHS.

As Oscar Frankham ran past the centre, staff stood and supported him with placards saying “Go Oscar, Go Oscar”. The team also sounded sirens and gave a couple of toots of the ambulance horn to encourage him on.

Oscar, from Workington's Forgehill estate, did the run with his family – mum Linsey, dad Adam and little brother Jonny – and has so far raised over £3,200 on his JustGiving page.

His parents are very proud of his achievements. Adam said: “It was all his own idea. He did it all at once without stopping in 32 minutes.

“I can’t put it into words how proud I am – my wife was in tears when we came across the ambulance centre and all the staff were there.

“For it to all have been his own idea for a six-year-old shows a mentality and maturity above his age.”

This is not all that Oscar has been busy with while on lockdown.

He has also been cleaning up the community by doing litter picking while out doing his exercise, and has collected 10 bags of rubbish. He has even managed to fit in cleaning the local beach too!

His dad said Oscar was desperate to do a fundraiser himself and support the NHS, initially hoping to raise £100.

Oscar is delighted with the amount that he has managed to raise so far.

He was inspired by all the good things people have been doing during lockdown and wanted to help the NHS too, especially as he has family who work for the NHS.

Adam, who is a part-time fitness instructor at Netherhall, will also be doing his bit to raise funds with online indoor cycling classes from home. This will be on his Adam Frankham Facebook page. Oscar hopes to continue raising money for NHScharitiestogether at his just giving page justgiving.com/crowdfunding/oscar-frankham?utm_term=5Wxexw3Ay
