PATTERDALE Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of a man who collapsed and became unconscious when out walking with his family.

The incident happened on last Sunday on Great Mell Fell, north of Ullswater.

A spokesman for the team said: "At lunch time on March 21 the team were tasked to a gentleman from the Penrith area who had collapsed.

"As the team began to assemble at the base of Mell Fell one of the advanced party located the man, along with his family, descending the fell.

"After being treated by two of the teams doctors the gentleman was transferred to an Ambulance for transport up to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

"The incident lasted two hours and involved 14 team members."
