When it comes to comfort food, nothing quite beats tucking into a chippy tea.

A brilliant place to visit after a long walk in the surrounding Keswick fells, many readers agreed that The Kingfisher was a quality establishment for fish and chips.

Mary Mason and Heather Holt had nothing but positives to say.

Located at Waterhead Bay, Ambleside, the “fantastic” chippy has been rated 4.5 stars from more than 110 reviews on Trip Advisor with many raving about the views.

One reader, Kelly Manefield said: “Friendly staff, brilliant ordering and superb service.

"Highly recommended and in a lovely setting in Ambleside.”

Joshua Leigh, said: “For people who live in the Lakes and don’t know about this chippy, I highly recommend.”

David Friel commented: “Great chippy with a great view!”

3 MAIN STREET FISHERIES, COCKERMOUTH

On the main street of Cockermouth many residents wouldn’t know what to do without this popular chippy.

John Isaac Johnston said: “Perfect chippy to visit on my way home after work.”

Shirley Clark said: “My go to shop for my fish and chips – I hope they never change.”

Matt Wilde agreed: “One of the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted!

4 WINDMILL FISHERIES, COCKERMOUTH

Located on 41 Windmill Lane this tucked away chippy in Cockermouth gained many mentions.

Thomas McCarron said: “Good old-fashioned chippy with great tasting food.

"Fishcakes are great as are jumbo sausages. Friendly service too.

"It’s hidden away on an housing estate in Cockermouth, but it’s well worth searching out.

"Probably the best chip shop in Cumbria.”

5 LAKES FISH AND CHIPS, KESWICK

The Lakes Fish & Chips Takeaway is run by partners Paula and Stephen, it offers a traditional menu with some contemporary dishes as well.
