A new project to transform Flimby Railway Station has been opened.
The idea was to encourage the local community to go out and explore Flimby, take photographs of their favourite places and put these forward for display at the railway station.
The project was launched by Tanya Peers – Headteacher at Flimby Primary School, other people present included Ruth Eve, Katrina Ingriselli, Michelle Hooper, Jane Murray - Northern Station Manager and Warren Birch - Community Rail Partnership Officer.
This project, funded by Northern and designed by local company Firpress, enabled submitted images to come to life with the production of two display boards that can now be seen on the northbound platform.
During the first lockdown in 2020, the school launched an exciting new project ‘Our Flimby’ via their Facebook page, an initiative to try and lift the mood of the village at what was a very difficult time.
The idea behind the boards is to improve wellbeing and bring a smile to the faces of people using the Cumbrian Coast Line.
Flimby Primary School hope these boards will inspire locals and visitors passing through the railway station.
Warren Birch said: – “It has been wonderful supporting the school to deliver such an inspiring and innovative project.”
