WORKINGTON MP Mark Jenkinson has teamed up with Tivoli and Allerdale Borough Council to tackle 'Grot Spots' across his constituency.

The partners have developed a new website in which people across the constituency can report any areas near where they live that may be described as a 'grot spot' - something that looks untidy or out of place, that can be improved.

The Grot Spot website is now live and can be accessed to report and interact with a map showing all live and resolved Grot Spots. This will give residents within the Workington constituency an easy as quick way of reporting Grot Spots in their communities.

A Grot Spot can include litter, weeds, potholes, overgrown verges, dirty road signs, or a disappearing footpath. Full details and descriptions can be found on the Mark Jenkinson website, along with methods to report them.

The MP came up with the initiative with the aim of giving his constituents a clear and easy way of reporting untidy areas in their communities.

Mr Jenkinson said: “I correspond with hundreds of constituents every week, and a long running theme of the issues they bring to me, have been surrounding Grot Spots.

“I am extremely pleased with the co-operation I have received from Tivoli in setting up this website and reporting system, so that we can work together with local authorities to tackle untidy areas.

“There are some great community groups and individuals across the constituency, who work tirelessly at maintaining our parks and organising litter-picks, to keep our communities clean.

“But there are several Grot Spots that cannot be resolved by volunteers, and that is why I have set up this website so that there is a quick and straightforward way for local residents to help keep their communities clean."

Residents are encouraged to go to mark-jenkinson.co.uk/grot-spots and fill out a short form to report.

Mike Johnson, leader of Allerdale Borough Council, said: "Keeping Allerdale clean and green is one of the council's key priorities and our staff, contractors and partners work really hard to maintain the areas we're responsible for.

"However, we cannot do this alone and we need the public to play their part by reporting issues so we and the other authorities can take action."

Mr Johnson said he was 'delighted' to be working in partnership with Mr Jenkinson and Tivoli.
