A POPULAR Lake District walk reopened at the the weekend, after parts of the path were damaged by Storm Arwen last month.

The K2T trail, which follows the old railway route from Keswick to the nearby village of Threlkeld, was damaged in several areas during Storm Arwen, which ravaged through much of Cumbria and the North of England last month.

The Lake District National Park Authority said it was 'delighted' to have been able to open the path to walkers this weekend.

The authority thanked the Lakes Rangers for their assistance in helping to reopen the trail and Lakes Volunteers who helped to suggest alternative routes to people who had wished to carry out the walk.

An LDNPA Spokesperson said: "We were delighted to be able to reopen the K2T trail on Saturday, December 18. Work will be ongoing in the new year to continue the clear up.

"Following Storm Arwen, national park rangers and contractors worked to clear fallen trees and also to clear debris, loose trees and vegetation off the cuttings and small tunnel entrance. Some very large root balls of trees that had fallen into the tunnel mouth were removed and fencing repaired."
