In the lead up to the second installment of a popular food festival, a call out for producers from Cumbria has been made.

The Taste of the Sea festival in Maryport is returning this year following on from their success last year.

It is part of the broader Taste Cumbria festival, which takes place in three towns across four festivals overall.

Last year's successful event in Maryport saw hundreds of people who were in the town, around the various sites where there were things to buy, hear, learn or just enjoy.

The Taste of the Sea Festival was an Allerdale council initiative, an addition to its Taste of Cumbria events.

It was sponsored, to the tune of £10,000 by Maryport Town Council.

A spokesperson from Visit Allerdale said: "The events will have everything you’ve come to expect from Taste Cumbria – big producers’ markets, experts to chat to, food and drink to eat on the spot, children’s entertainment, live music and more.

"Nearly everything at the Taste Cumbria festivals is free to enjoy.

"A small number of events are ticketed and we’re keeping a close check on coronavirus restrictions to ensure these are planned in line with the very latest guidelines.

"Cockermouth’s festival in September is now a firm fixture in every food fan’s calendar, while we’ll be building on the success of the new Maryport and Wigton events which began in 2021.

"Then it’s back to Cockermouth for the Christmas markets in December."

The Maryport event, Taste of the Sea, takes place in August from Saturday 13 to Sunday 14.

This year's festival will include:

  • Producers’ Market on Senhouse Street
  • Outdoor picnic area with live music all weekend
  • Cookery demonstrations with some great local chefs
  • Hot food stalls
  • Festival bar
  • Fairground rides
  • Children’s activities with Rainbow Wishes Foundation

Trader pitches are still available for the Producers’ Market and hot food court.

Priority will be given to Allerdale and other Cumbrian producers but they welcome inquiries from other areas.
