SCHOOLS in Workington have came together to support Ukraine with a non-uniform day across the town.
Children from primary schools in the area attended their classes yesterday as a sign of solidarity with the country.
Speaking about the day, Beckstone Primary School headteacher David Warbrick said: "The idea for supporting those in Ukraine originally came from a Y2 child at this school called Elliott during a conversation at the gates one morning last week, he even suggested sharing his idea with schools across the town.
"Following on from that conversation I shared the idea with my colleagues and the response from them was absolutely wonderful, we all collaborate really well together and it is a really strong group of Headteachers.
"From then all schools have pulled together, shared ideas resulting in the blue and yellow non uniform day across our cluster schools that has been supported so well.
"The kindness and generosity of the parental communities of our schools is a wonder to behold and very much appreciated.
"All donations will support the Ukrainian refugees and all who have contributed can be re-assured that their acts of kindness will help our fellow European citizens at such a difficult and stressful time for them."
