THE RECENT heatwave had the Times and Star team looking forward to locking our typewriters away for the evening and heading out for a drink or two.

For that reason, we were searching for the “best beer gardens” in the area. As always, our readers answered the call.

Here, in no particular order, are some of many recommendations for the best beer gardens in the Allerdale area.

1. The Grey Goat Inn – The Baggrow pub has been around for over 300 years and has 14 tables and eight beer barrels to sit around in their beer garden.

2. Miners Arms – Found on Workington’s Guard Street, the pub is extremely popular at the tail end of the week, with an ice-cold drink in hand adding to the friendly atmosphere.

3. Castle Bar - Touted by locals as Cockermouth’s best beer garden and with easy access to the bar, the south-facing sun trap is a beautiful spot to enjoy an ale or glass of wine with family or friends.

4. Swinside Inn – With one of the most picturesque beer gardens in the area, the pub near Keswick allows guests to enjoy some delicious meals at their tables as they enjoy the sunshine.

5. Wigton Park Bowling Club – One reader recommended the bowling club, enjoying a cold pint whilst watching an exciting game with pleasant company.

6. Lifeboat Inn – Located on Sibson Place, Harrington, the pub welcomes dog walkers to take a seat after taking their furry friends out for a run.
