THE EVENINGS are getting lighter and temperatures are heating up, although we’ll forget about last week’s icy blast.

This week we asked Times and Star readers to share their recommendations on the best places to grab an ice cream around the west of Cumbria — and they didn’t disappoint.

Here, in no particular order, are the 10 choices readers selected.

1. Davison’s – A popular choice with readers. The store has been located on Silloth’s Criffel Street since 2008, The well-loved outlet makes traditional dairy ice cream on the premises, with over 30 flavours available at a time.

2. Twentymans Ice Cream – You can find this shop that has been serving Maryport guests and residents for over 100 years. The new dipping pallet will keep kids entertained with their messy creations.

3. Moody Cow - With fresh farm milk bottled daily, takeaway drinks and cakes, convenience store, free Wi-Fi, and greeting customers with a smile – this charming ice cream shop in Allonby is always good for a crack.

4. Wellington Farm – You can find ice cream sundaes, milkshakes and humongous freak shakes at this Cockermouth glamping site.

5. Syke Farm Tearoom – The Buttermere campsite’s café offers a variety of sweet goods and have recently started selling gluten free ice cream cones ensuring everyone leaves with a smile on their face.

6. Luchini’s Ice Cream – Based in a shop on Keswick’s Tithebarn Street, five generations of the Luchini family have worked for the firm down the years. The family also have a van which can be deployed to your office!

7. Buttermere Ayrshire – The company have been making home-made ice cream from their herd of Ayrshire since 2002, served in their traditional tea rooms in the heart of the Buttermere Valley.

8. The Wharf – The ice cream and coffee house on Maryport’s West Quay sell a range of gluten free and vegan ice creams alongside other handmade sundaes and sorbets as well as doughnuts made on the premises.

9. Wellington Farm Café and Tearooms – Why not treat yourself after the Cockermouth café’s farmhouse breakfast with a delicious homemade Wellington Jersey ice cream.

10. Casa Bella - Located at the heart of Keswick’s town centre, one member of staff trained in Bologna at the Carpigiani Gelato University.  He uses traditional techniques to produce a lovely smooth and creamy texture to their gelato.
