Maryport is joining a worldwide project to fish for litter.
The town council has agreed to put a bin at the Fishing Coop building as part of the Fishing for Litter campaign.
Fishing for Litter started in the Netherlads and is now gone worldwide.
Maryport council worked with Maryport Harbour Authority and local fisherman to agree to join the campaign.
Basically it encourages fishermen to dump rubbish in the provided bin rather than throwing it back into the sea.
The bin would cost between £20 and £25 for a contractor to collect the rubbish, probably once or twice a month.
This cost would be met by the council but councillors will explore funding options including a grant from the Robin Rigg windfarm.
A working party was set up in August to look at the best options for Maryport.
At a meeting last week, the town council agreed to proceed with the bins.
