ORGANISERS are once again calling for local artists to prepare for a major exhibition.

The Wigton Open Art Exhibition celebrates its 10th anniversary next month and is expecting around 100 entries from at least 80 artists.

The remarkable aspect of the exhibition is that these artists - professional and amateur - all live and work within a 30-mile radius of the town.

This year’s curator, Brian Campbell, commented on the numbers involved. “As a teacher here for almost 60 years I have become very familiar with the rich vein of local artistic talent," he said.

“Curating the 10th Anniversary Open Exhibition renews my contact with so many excellent Cumbrian painters, both amateur and professional.

"It gives me enormous pleasure to see such a wealth of subject matters so beautifully displayed in the lovely Cumbria Suite of Wigton Market Hall.”

The exhibition will run from May 26 until June 3 and will be open every day from 10am to 4pm.

Entry to the exhibition is free.
