Numbers were slightly down for a dance festival started up again after lockdown - but organisers are delighted with those who did take part.

Secretary Sandra Chapman said there were around 80 dancers from Maryport. Workington, Cockermouth and from the North East and Lancashire.

Times and Star:

"Some were new faces and we lost some of the dancers who had given up during the two-year lockdown.  But it was a good festival and we were delighted with it," she said.

One of the highlights was the return to the local stage of Katy Winters, who now works for Imagination Parties.

Times and Star:

She received the best entertainment, her comedy, and also entertained the children when she appeared as the Disney character Ariel.

Theresa Rodney, whose mother, the late Florence Mulgrew, started the festival over 40 years ago, said her mother would have been delighted.

"I honestly believe we will go back to a full four-day festival in the future. "

Theresa. who has all but given up dance teaching, was determined this festival would go ahead in her mother's name.

In response to her efforts, she was the surprise recipient of the Florence Mulgrew trophy given to a person embodying the spirit of the festival.

Squeezed out of the Wave Centre because of added attractions,

the festival moved to  Maryport Primary School this year.

Organisers agreed it has been a positive change and are hoping that the venue would be available again next year.

"We need to thank Maryport C of E school andMandy Penn for  the support we have been given. Their support has been second to none."

Sandra Chapman, who has been one of the main organizers of the show announced her retirement as did Joan Nicholson, who later said she would probably be back!

Theresa thanked them for their efforts and also acknowledged

Ronnie Kirkbride and Judith Armstrong who have staffed the door since the beginning of the festival.

Times and Star:

She thanked all the volunteers and said the festival could not have run without the support of many businesses. These include KDEA Dressmaking, John George of Maryport News who gives a cash bursary each year, The Garden, Workington, Rebecca Rodney Photography, Special Occasions, Bri-Marg, Paul @ Trophies Sport and Leisure, The Bakehouse in Maryport,
