A SPECIAL celebration was held by Workington Town Council to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The 'Party in the Park' saw thousands descend on Vulcan Park in the town for what would be seen as a marvelous day of fun and festivities.

There was much on offer including live music, face painting and many different stalls- with fun for all of the family.

The main attraction for many however, was a fabulous dog show that took place as part of the event on Saturday, June 4.

A spokesman for the town council said: "Workington Town Council are utterly delighted with the response from our town to the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

"Thousands of people attended Vulcan Park to sing, dance, eat and shop their way through Saturdays extravaganza of local music, entertainment, stalls and of course our fantastic dog show.

"We would like to thank all those who attended to share this momentous occasion, it was truly a once in a life time weekend."

Mayor of Workington Denise Rollo said: "The Party in the Park was a huge success and brought families, friends and communities together through a common support of the Queens Platinum Jubilee which  is exactly what her majesty wished for.

"I would like to thank the hard working town council staff and to all those that entertained us and made it a day to remember.

"Speaking to many people, they were absolutely overjoyed seeing the park used and loved and it highlights the fact that we need to get together and socialise more after the difficult 2 years we have experienced."
