A popular village carnival will take place soon - and organisers hope that lots of people will join in the fun.

Broughton Children’s Carnival will be held on Saturday, July 16.

Long-standing committee secretary Anne Davis said: "The last one was in 2019 so everyone is looking forward to it.

"We've had lots of donations, people really enjoy it. We've got lots of queens and are hoping that lots of people will turn up and join in the parade."

The carnival is well known for its great cross section of people and groups dressing up and joining in the fun.

There's always lots of support from villagers as the parade winds its way through Great and Little Broughton.

All children under 16 in the procession will receive a rosette, medal and a voucher for refreshments on the Welfare Field, where the crowning ceremony will take place at about 4pm.

Fletcher’s Fair, various stalls and an ice cream van will be on the field.

Tyneside Pipe Band and Mossley Band will be attending.

This year's queens are: Carnival Queen Amelia Fisher; Platinum Jubilee Queen Abigail Foster; Snow King Alfie Jenkins; Herald Evie Rolls; Ivy Queen Ivy Cruttenden; Gypsy Queen Esmé ; Miss Broughton Amelia Jai Collister; Princess Emma Fisher; Britannia Elizabeth Stephenson; Prince Jaxson Fletcher.

All those wanting to take past should turn up at the top of the School Field on Moor Road by 1.30pm for a 2pm start. There is no judging, apart from Entertainment en Route.

A Road Closure Order from Allerdale will be in place between 2pm and 4pm.
