A young man became unwell, cold, and weak after swimming in a tarn.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team members and the Great North Air Ambulance were deployed to Scales Tarn at Blencathra on July 10 at 3:38 pm after the 19-year-old, who was part of a large party, experienced these symptoms.

A spokesperson from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said: “As he was part of a large party there was a group leader who made the decision to call 999 and both Keswick Mountain Rescue and Great North Air Ambulance Service were deployed to the area.

“The air ambulance was able to land nearby and provide initial treatment before being re-deployed to a more critically injured casualty elsewhere.

“The mountain rescue party arrived shortly after and also assessed the man who had by now made a full recovery and was able to walk off the fell with the rest of his party.”

The mission required the efforts of 15 mountain rescuers and took two hours and 27 minutes.
