WAS a complaint from a resident just a fuss about nowt?
That is the question Maryport Town Council was left pondering after resident James Gartland wrote about what he saw as 'grammatical and spelling errors' on some of the benches that have been placed around the harbour and promenade.
The town council had asked people who wanted to attach a plaque to the benches in memory of loved ones.
Mr Gartland acknowledged that he soon realised that one 'error' was actually a play on words: "Ted and Joan McMullen 'like the sea on a summer morning: greatly mist'.
In fairness to Mr Gartland, there are some minor grammatical errors - missing capitals, full stops etc.
Councillors acknowledged Mr Gartland's comments but mayor, Peter Kendall, said Maryport has its own way of talking and always had.
He commended all those who had signed up for plaques on the benches and added that they should be able to have the messages on the bench as they had requested.
