A drink-driver who was more than four times over the limit has been banned from the roads for three years.

Rita Ferguson, 37, had pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a vehicle with alcohol level above the limit, at a hearing on July 19.

Ferguson was driving a Kia Ceed on Gote Brow in Cockermouth on May 20, when the offence took place.

She had 147mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

The defendant, of Smailes Court, Main Street, Cockermouth, was sentenced at Workington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Ferguson was banned from driving for 36 months, to be reduced by 36 weeks, if she completes the drink-driver’s rehabilitation course.

She was given a 12-month community order and complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

The defendant was also fined £450 and must pay £85 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
