THE team at Furness-based Unearthed will feature in the second episode of the Channel 5 show Digging for Treasure tonight.

Unearthed is a Dalton-based company that supplies metal detecting products across the UK. It is led by Graeme Rushton, who in the first episode showed host Michaela Strachan what you can buy, from starter detectors to high-end equipment.

In the show he said: "There's this one here which is an intro machine-between two or three hundred quid, and then you've got the professional high-end detectors and you're talking about £900-1000."

The most expensive detector is a 'multi-frequency' detector that is fully waterproof, wireless, it can be used on land or on the beaches, and it can detect things that are deeper down, he said.

He then showed her the best technique to use when metal detecting. The metal detector coil should be as close to the soil as it can be with slow sweeps while maintaining a straight back.

This week's episode, airing on Channel 5 at 9pm (Friday 2 September) will feature Graeme more prominently. The episode will focus on a site in Cumbria, which Graeme said was 'west of Penrith.'

In the episode, Graeme will be sharing his hobby with landowners and farmers: "What we are finding now is that farmers in the north are extremely interested in uncovering the history of their particular farms and their land. They are almost putting together pieces of the jigsaw tonight. Some people here are three or four generations in, they are finding artefacts that their grandparents lost."

He said that tonight's episode will 'fly the flag for Cumbria' and that 'I may be biased, but I think it is the best one.'

The show is also hosted by Dan Walker in his first big TV series after leaving BBC Breakfast in May. He described it as the 'Top Gear of metal detecting.'

Raksha Dave acts as a third presenter, who is a famous archaeologist. She puts forward her knowledge of the objects for Dan Walker to react to, while Michaela Strachan combs the fields looking for objects and speaks to the different metal detectorists digging for treasure.
