A Cockermouth woman who runs a sustainable eating company is organising a free visit to an organic farm as part of the Great Big Green Week.

The national initiative runs from Saturday to October 2 and involves many events which show ways in which we can tackle climate change.

Sharon Watson, from SLO Food Suppers, is organising a free small group visit to Askerton Castle Estate organic meat farm, near Brampton, on Wednesday, September 28.

"I was delighted that these very busy local, organic farmers are happy to give up their time to welcome us," said Sharon.

"This is a rare opportunity for people to see for themselves how organic farming methods benefit both animals and our Cumbrian environment and talk to these committed farmers about why they farm as they do.

"I'm looking forward to a fun and informative day."

SLO Food Suppers is all about encouraging people to eat and enjoy seasonal, local, organic food.

"The Great Big Green Week initiative gives me the opportunity to help support and celebrate the efforts of the fantastic local farmers who supply my meat and who, by farming organically, are standing up for nature and fighting climate change on a daily basis," said Sharon.
