THIS week our Trader of the Week is this newly-formed dog walking business, helping the people of west Cumbria.

West Lakes Dog Walking was set up by Phil Johnston in recent weeks to offer a dog walking service for those who need their dog taken for some exercise.

Despite being a very new business Phil has already seen a lot of interest from people in the west Cumbria area looking for help with their pets.

Phil is based in Cockermouth and offers his services to people based in and around the local area.

Mr Johnston said: "I just provide small pack walks and drop-ins for people who want to have their dogs walked for an hour or so, rather than on a smaller walk with a larger pack of dogs.

"I take up to four dogs out at a time and I will take them to nice locations like Cogra Moss or Whinlatter so that they can have a sniff or a gallop. As opposed to walking around Cockermouth in a huge pack on leads.

"I've only officially launched the business recently and I already have a couple of clients but I would like to start expanding it."

Phil explained that it is him alone that runs the company. He says that he has always loved dogs and got a puppy last year, hiring a dog trainer to work with the puppy.

He said that it was this that instilled a love of wanting to work with dogs.

Mr Johnston continued: "I walk with a smaller group of animals, purely to benefit them as they'll get more out of it and will be happier just having a sniff and a run.

"It's also easier for me to manage and I enjoy being with the dogs. I'll go along and pick them up from clients' houses."

Mr Johnston added: "It's for people who may be too busy to walk their dogs or are unable to anymore."
