Sex offender who appeared on BBC Crimewatch admits his guilt

AN on-the-run child sex offender whose disappearance from Cumbria prompted an appeal on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme has appeared before a Carlisle court.

Paul Hunter Redpath, 51, admitted three offences when he appeared via a video link before the city’s Rickergate court.

The court heard that the defendant, whose past offences include convictions for sexually abusing two teenage girls, put himself in breach of sexual harm prevention order by leaving Cumbria without the permission of his offender manager.

Carlisle motorist who crashed into wall had used cannabis

A DRUG driver was caught after he lost control of his car on a country road near Dalston and crashed into a wall.

William Sleightholm, 20, came to the attention of the police when he crashed his Ford Fiesta on June 24, Carlisle’s Rickergate court heard. He admitted driving while over the limit for cannabis. 

Prosecutor George Shelley said the accident happened in the hamlet of Chalkfoot, south of Dalston, at around 9pm.

Carlisle woman caught with illegal drugs in Penrith

A FINE and costs totalling £259 have been imposed on a Carlisle woman who was caught with two illegal drugs – heroin and Xanax.

Rebecca Wardle, 35, of Well Bank Place, Carlisle, admitted having both drugs on May 20 in Penrith. Defence lawyer Chris Toms told Carlisle’s Rickergate court that Wardle suffered from a variety of mental health problems.

Aspatria man took took his mum's car without permission

A BANNED motorist who took his mother’s car for a drive late at night without her consent has been told he was lucky not to be jailed.

The defence lawyer who represented 28-year-old Aspatria man Rhys Greenhow told magistrates that the offences were committed shortly after the death of the defendant’s grandmother, to whom he was very close.

Greenhow, from North View, Aspatria, pleaded guilty disqualified driving, taking his mother’s BMW car without her consent, failing to provide a breath specimen for analysis, and driving with no valid insurance.

M6 driver found asleep in car next to empty lager cans

A MOTORIST who works as a part-time taxi driver was found asleep in his own car surrounded by empty lager cans at an M6 service station.

When police found 63-year-old Brian Wallace in his Ford car at Tebay Services on September 22, the engine was still running he was asleep in the driver’s seat, Carlisle's Rickergate court heard. Also in the car were seven empty lager cans, four full ones, and a half empty can of Tennents lager.

The defendant, from Stonebank, Livingston, Scotland, admitted being over the alcohol limit while in charge of a motor vehicle.
