THOUSANDS turned out on the streets of Workington on Sunday to remember the fallen in this years Rememberance Sunday parade.

Young and old took to the streets to follow the parade which started from Pow Street in the town.

The march went through the town and past Workington Town Hall on Oxford street before the parade was dismissed at the Workington Royal British Legion.

Lesley Jackson, member of the Workington Branch of the Royal British Legion said: "It was absolutely fantastic to see so many people there, especially the younger people who are coming through - and a lot of the schools are taking part in it now too.

"We have all the young organisations aswell who are a real credit to their units and attachments, it's just great to see them there.

"We know it's in good hands to carry this on into the future, we aren't going to be around forever but it's lovely to see all these young people who are going to carry it on."

A spokesman for Workington Town Council said: "We were absolutely delighted with the turn out for our Remembrance parades in Harrington and Workington on Sunday.

"It was especially nice to see so many young people turn out to pay their respects to those who gave their lives for us, those who served and those who still serve today.

"Thank you to all the services, groups, organisations and volunteers who help make these parades possible."

Workington MP Mark Jenkinson said:"It is always an honour to lay a wreath to the fallen at one of our local memorials. I, and others in my behalf, laid a number at memorials across the constituency on Friday and Monday.

"I was delighted to see huge turnouts at the parades that I attended, particularly as we now watch war on our doorstep in Europe again.

"It was a particular honour to be under the instruction of Parade Marshal WO2 Allan Edmondson at what will be his last remembrance parade. My thanks go to him and his armed forces colleagues across all branches and across our full-time, reserve and cadet forces.

"I also thank the Royal British Legion and Workington Town Council for their organisation of such a great event."
