A PLANNING applicaton has been submitted to Allerdale Borough Council for the building of 38 homes in Aspatria- after a previous scheme was abandoned.

A planning application was validated by Allerdale for the continuation of new housing provision, following abandonment of a previous scheme, on land adjacent to Station Road, Aspatria, Wigton by Manning Elliott Architects on November, 23.

Th applicant said : "This application is not the resumption of the previous scheme, but a new submission, utilising infrastructure previously installed, to provide 38 new housing units."

Currently, the area is being used as an abandoned housing development site, however access road, SUDS drainage and retaining walls have been installed.

A design and access statement said: "Overall, the development proposal as shown within the application pack is for 38 residential properties, the same number as already approved under the applications described above.

"This application seeks to improve the approved house types whilst increasing the level of parking and amenity space which can be clearly seen from the submitted plans.

"Of the 38 no units shown upon the submitted application site layout, 10 per cent of the properties proposed are target allocated as affordable or low cost housing with support and commitment being provided for the delivery of these units by an established leading registered social landlord."

The proposed scheme, which the applicant believes to be a 'broad and balanced' mixture of two, three and four bedroom properties of varying size and design, being linked, semi-detached and detached house units and detached bungalows across the site.

The applicant believes that the development will create a 'high quality' of life for people who choose to live there, with opportunities for criminal activity being 'designed out' wherever possible.

A design and access statement said: "The development will create a pleasant environment for residents and visitors where they feel safe and secure.

"A high quality of life will not be undermined by crime or the fear of crime. To this end, opportunities for criminal activity have been recognised and designed out where possible."

The application is now under consultation with Allerdale Borough Council and will be decided at a later date.
