YOU could never get rich fostering but it makes you feel like a millionaire.

Lee Towers who, with wife Wendy, has fostered more than 20 children and adopted two to add to their brood of five, said seeing a foster child do well is worth all the money in the world.

Lee and Wendy, from Maryport, are supporting a Cumbria County Council appeal for more foster parents.

Wendy added: “There are so many children out there who need help and we can do it. It is heart wrenching when they leave us but fantastic if we know that they have been adopted into a good home."

The council has around 275 fostering households but with more than 750 children in care, morre foster parents are urgently neeeded.

Carers are supported by a dedicated team and help to keep Cumbrian children in the county, close to family and community links.

A county spokesman said: "In 2023 we are urgently looking for more people to join our community of foster carers and would love to hear from anyone who thinks they may have what it takes.”

An event in Wokington next week will include a short presentation followed by the chance to speak to county officers  about fostering.

The event will be held from 12pm to 2pm on Tuesday, January 19,  the washington Hotel, Washington Street, Workington.
