WORKINGTON'S MP has thanked the Conservative Party's 'generous supporters', following a new analysis of public records which show £180,000 worth of donations and gifts that have been handed to him and the Workington Conservative Association since 2019.

The analysis, undertaken by Sky News and Tortoise Media, has produced a record of financial interests in Westminster.

The figures reveal that the Workington MP Mark Jenkinson has declared donations, earnings, gifts, and other benefits worth approximately £184,400 since December 19, 2019.

But Mr Jenkinson has said that cash donations received have been to the Conservative Association and not to him personally.

The amount includes donations from businessman Michael Wombwell of £150,800 since December 2019.

According to the parliamentary register, Mr Wombwell donated two sums of £67,000; one to the MP registered on March 30, 2021, and one which went to the Conservative Association registered on April 4, 2022.

Mr Jenkinson said that the donation registered in March 2021 was also paid directly to the Conservative Association and the registration 'appears to have been recorded under the incorrect category'.

Workington Conservative Association chair John Cook confirmed that both payments of £67,000 went to the association - and this is reflected in Electoral Commssion documentation.

Mr Jenkinson also received donations of over £16,800 from Mr Wombwell, registered in December 2020, for schoolbooks to be distributed to primary school children and hampers for veterans.

Other donations include £8,000 from the company IX Wireless.

In terms of gifts (listed separately to donations) these have included two tickets with hospitality for the Rugby League World Cup Final, value £829.50 registered in December 2022, and one ticket with hospitality to an Ed Sheeran concert, value £685 registered in July 2022, both from the Betting and Gaming Council.

According to the analysis, the value of Mr Jenkinson’s interests puts him in the top 6 per cent of all MPs.

Mr Jenkinson said: "The register of members' financial interests is there to act as a transparent reporting tool for any donations in cash or in kind that have the potential to be linked to MPs.

"I have never received any cash donations, and any donations registered are to the Conservative Party where the donor may possibly be perceived to have a link with me.

"I have registered gifts and hospitality including books that I deliver to primary school children every Christmas, and hampers that I deliver to veterans.

"I am also grateful to the generous supporters of my inaugural Workington skills fair, whose support enable me to host over 60 employers and showcase local opportunities to local young people in order that we nurture and retain our home-grown talent."
