A Level 3 Cold Weather Alert, issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is in force for Cumbria until 9am on Friday morning.

A number of severe weather warnings for snow and ice are in place across the UK including Cumbria as temperatures are set to remain low throughout the week and into the weekend.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, said; “Cold air is continuing to push across the UK from the north and many areas have seen some snow, wintry conditions, and overnight frosts.

“More weather warnings are likely to be issued over the coming days.”

Temperatures are set to remain cold across Cumbria with lows of around minus 4 expected across the county and gritters are set to be deployed over the county in the upcoming days.

The cold spell will come to an end later this week and through the weekend across western areas, where it will turn milder and windier with some rain at times.
