YOUNG James McGowan will turn 11 this Valentine's Day.

He is destined to be part of every Valentine feature ever written because of the surprise he gave Workington parents Sarah and Terry.

The couple had no idea that Sarah was pregnant until she was admitted to hospital with severe abdominal pains... and came out with baby James!

I wonder if he is at the age when he enjoys hearing how he was a miracle baby? If not, apologies James but your story is just too good not to use!

Roses also feature quite liberally on these pages and, with the best will in the world, you know they are going to be expensive.

Don't worry, though. Although we are giving you plenty of notice, we are also letting you know that if you don't come up to scratch there are plenty more opportunities to show your romantic side.

That is because, according to the internet page History Stories, there are actually five Saint Valentines including one woman and one pope.

And here is the get out clause: History is not sure that the February 14 St Valentine is the right one. Is he the bishop who had a heart for young love and watched over beekeepers or not?

All we are saying is, that, if you tell the story convincingly enough, you can get away from buying roses at their most expensive.

You can tell you other half that you sincerely believe that the REAL Valentine is the one celebrated on January 7, the two dates in July or the one in November.

We take no responsibility, however, if your loved one is a strict traditionalist. We will let you know who the saint of lonely hearts is next time!

The lovely thing about Valentine's here is that it can be used to promote love or to help others. Tesco gave Seaton school 250 buns to help feed the pupils during a school disco.

The Times & Star ran a successful Heart Stop and card and gift shop owner John George donated a lot of heart-shaped items from his Valentine collection.

All five Valentines would no doubt approve of their days being used to help other people.

On behalf of all of them, then: Happy Valentine's all and Happy Birthday James!
