AN historic Cockermouth church is launching a major fundraising appeal this week - to raise money for new toilets.

All Saints' Church aims to raise £80,000 to bring its facilities fully up to date for community use.

Project co-ordinator Andy Warner said: "Following on from the creation of disabled parking spaces in 2022 our new aim is to install accessible toilet and baby changing facilities, making All Saints a user-friendly space for all kinds of community events and activities."

Team rector Rev Canon Jane Charman said: "All Saints Church is a very special venue where local residents regularly come together for baptisms, weddings and funerals and for civic occasions.

"We hope the wider community will support the appeal generously so that the building can continue to serve future generations."

Parishioners heard about the appeal at last Sunday's service, which was live-streamed on the All Saints Facebook page.

This week there are three opportunities to go to the church, look at the plans, see a presentation and chat to those heading up the appeal.

These are on: Wednesday, March 1, 2pm to 4pm or 7pm to 8pm (with wine and nibbles) or Saturday, March 4, 2pm to 4pm.

The church is always open during the day for those wishing to drop in at other times too.
