A cheerleading group based in Maryport has been successful in their latest competition in Blackpool.

Over the weekend the Cheer Force Knights headed down to Winter Gardens in Blackpool to perform their cheerleading routines in a contest.

The club is seeing a great deal of success at the moment and next month will be heading over to America to perform at a competition in Florida.

Over the past year, they have been raising money to fund the youths being able to attend the competition overseas.

They have now reached their target of £17,000 and all those involved cannot wait for the trip of a lifetime.

Cheer Force Knights serve children and teenagers across Maryport, Allerdale, and much of west Cumbria.

Olivia Scholey, club owner and director of Cheer Force Knights, said: "We went to Blackpool at the Winter Gardens and we took over 100 kids. We did nine routines and got seven firsts, one second, and then one outstanding rank.

"We do a mixture of cheerleading and gymnastics but at the competitions, we just take the cheerleading routines, the kids were really pleased with the result because they've worked so hard.

"Next month we will be going to America. We will be flying in five weeks. We've been raising money to pay for the children's entry fees and we've now reached our total of £17,000.

"We already had the bid to go to the competition in Florida because it's a big competition so we upgraded to a paid bid so they're going to pay for our entry fees now as well.

"All the coaches are so proud of the kids and how hard they've worked to get to where they are right now."

The club offers weekly classes that are available in recreational gymnastics and competitive cheerleading. Cheer Force Knights also have a branch in Carlisle.
