TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular young footballer and father who 'always brought a smile to everyone around him', after he died suddenly earlier this month.

Jacob Baker passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 9 at the age of 27 leaving his team mates, family and many friends devastated at his tragic passing.

Jacob moved from Doncaster to Seaton, Workington, joining the Sunday league football team Flimby Social FC soon after. He worked at Sellafield Ltd.

He was the captain of Flimby Social FC in 2021, with players in the team saying the dressing room 'will never be the same again'.

Jacob was the partner of Sam, father of Grace, the much-loved son of Jeanette, step-son of Bernie, brother of Danielle, and a treasured uncle and nephew.

A spokeman for Flimby Social FC said: "All of us here at Flimby Social have very upsetting news. We have lost a very valuable member of our team and a dear friend to many of us.

"We give our condolences to his family and friends for this tragic news. Jacob Baker, who was loved by all, who always brought a smile to everyone around him, has sadly passed away.

"He was a big part of the team and to a lot of the lads at Flimby Social. We extend our arms to his family and friends and if there is anything we can do to help we are only a message or call away. May you rest in peace dear friend."

In a statement, Jacob's partner Sam said: "Can't quite believe I am having to share this - absolutely heartbroken.

"Our lives will never be the same without you Jacob Baker. Sleep tight, you are at peace now. Love you 'forever and always'."

This weekend the Cumberland FA have confirmed their Sunday league teams will host a minute's applause ahead of the matches due to be played.

Jacob's funeral will be held at at Rossington Minors Welfare on Friday, April 14 at 11am. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Jacob's memory can do so to Mind Ya Marra's Support Group.
