A talented musician who started out on the stage at Workington's Carnegie is looking forward to following in the foosteps of many stars and playing at the world famous Carnegie Hall in New York.

Professional musician Phil Doran is from High Harrington but has travelled the world over the years, entertaining audiences far and wide. This year is turning out to be "incredible", he said.

"It's been a bit of a rollercoaster with so much happening. It's been the most successful year of my career so far."

Phil, 36, has been passionate about music from an early age and got his first guitar aged five. Aged 15 he was playing in bands in what used to be Monroes, in Workington's Carnegie.

Phil studied music at university after attending St Patrick's and St Joseph's schools in Workington and St Benedict's in Whitehaven.

After graduating, he moved to Liverpool, where he has worked with a range of artists.

Phil has played at the Liverpool M&S Bank Arena in front of a sell-out crowd of 11,000 people, and toured Sweden, Italy, France and Thailand, as well as all over the UK.

He has recently returned from a month-long tour of Australia, performing at venues in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

"It was something I have always dreamed of doing, it was an incredible experience," said Phil, who lives on The Wirral but regularly returns home to see family.

At the end of this month he will be performing at St Paul’s Cathedral, London.

"I will be part of the first rock band in history to ever play there," he said.

Phil is the lead guitarist for a theatre company called Concerts by Candlelight.

They run multiple shows, including Queen by Candlelight, which is performing at St Paul’s and the Carnegie Hall.

The Broadway show will take place in June. Phil is in no doubt about the huge stars who have played on the same stage.

"The Carnegie Hall is world famous, where the likes of The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys and even Judy Garland performed," he said.
