WORKINGTON MP Mark Jenkinson was invited to meet the King this week, saying His Majesty is a 'big fan' of Workington.

The MP was invited to a reception in Westminster Hall on Tuesday, May 4 at a reception to celebrate the fothcoming coronation of Their Majesties the King and Queen Consort.

Talking about the event, Mr Jenkinson said: "This is the first time I have met him as King, I previously met him as Prince of Wales, and the first time I have met the Queen Consort.

"He is always very knowledgable about Workington having visited a number of times, and he speaks very fondly about Workington.

"It was a real privilege, particularly in his coronation week."

King Charles has previously visited Workington a number of times, including in 2014 for the opening of the Hospice at Home West Cumbria Therapy and Information Centre on Finkle Street in Workington - a charity which he has supported for over 25 years and has been a patron for since 1997, when he was Prince of Wales.

Mr Jenkinson will not be attending the coronation, and will make his way up to the constituency to celebrate the new King with his family at home.

He said: "I will certainly be watching the coronation, for the jubilee we had a little street party but I am not sure whether we will be doing that for the coronation.

"But yes I will certainly be watching the coronation and swearing my allegiance to the King, once again."
