A couple who have shared a long-time dream of opening an entertainment centre have finally done it - in Cockermouth.

Sally and Keith Lunn have launched Majic Bingo and Entertainment Centre on Main Street.

They are leasing what used to be the Conservative/ Derwent Club.

Sally and Keith are offering bingo sessions, a games room with darts and snooker and a licensed bar downstairs at the moment.

In the next few months they plan to open a lounge upstairs, with a play area.

"People will be able to have a bite to eat and a coffee. There will be a children's corner where they can play games," said Sally.

The venue is currently open at weekends.

Last weekend was a success, said Sally.

"The evening sessions were great fun. We had a group of ladies in our noisy bingo area on Saturday evening, who all enjoyed themselves, and our quiet bingo room is very popular too," she said.

The couple, who live in Worcestershire, intend to move to the area when the entertainment centre is fully up and running.

They are delighted to have found the town centre old building.

"We were looking for a site and fell in love with the Derwent Club.

"My husband came across the building online. We liked the look of it, did our homework and came up to visit," said Sally.

"We had tremendous support from local residents around there, also pubs."

Keith has been a DJ for 40 years and will do the bingo calling. Sally will do the admin side.

"This has been our dream since we got together 15 years ago," said Sally.

"Keith's past is in entertainment. He is planning to DJ in future - at bingo disco nights and parties.

"We also want to have local live entertainers and karaoke evenings."

The couple work on site every weekend and have employed three staff.
