A community working together for the Coronation "big help out" has been left devastated by vandalism.

Rainbow leader and North West Guiding Commissioner, Julie Walton organised the event to clean up a favorite Maryport walkway, the Fairy Path.

Now she is asking the parents of those children who worked so hard to stay away from the path: "It is absolutely heartbreaking and I do not want the children to see how their hard work has been abused."

Children from all ages and all stages of the Guiding and Scout movement joined in to help as did many of the parents.

Mrs Walton said: 2Our little Rainbows worked so hard. We made fairy doors from wood which were attached to trees along the path. We also painted stones to lay along it."

In an attempt to sprinkle some magic on the path, solar lights were also placed along it.

"We spent not only time but our own money doing this," Mrs Walton said.

The volunteers also collected bags of rubbish on the way.

This week she took a walk up the path. Most of the fairy doors had disappeared, some solar lamps had been stolen and others were no longer working because their battery cables had been cut.

"I reported the vandalism to the town council but there was little they could do. They did, however, suggest I speak to the community police officer which I will do."
